Handcoloured stipple engraving by Guyard from an illustration by Jean-Gabriel Pretre directed by Turpin from Jussieu's "Dictionnaire des Sciences Naturelles," Paris, Levrault, 1816-1830. The ornithological section was edited by Charles Sainte-Croix. Pretre (1780~1845) was painter of natural history at Empress Josephine's zoo and later became artist to the Museum of Natural History.
