A cross placed on top of a large cairn of snow marking the resting place of Captain Scott, Dr Wilson and Lieutenant Bowers, who died on the return from their unsuccessful attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole in 1912. The snow is trampled with the numerous footprints of the relief party and in the background is the wide level horizon of the Barrier. Date: 1913
