Compass Found In Jap Stud -- Stud which contains a tiny compass. Compare the size of the compass with the threepenny piece lying next to it.For nine months a former Australian prisoner of war has been wearing two souvenired Japanese collar studs, without knowing there was a miniature prismatic compass hidden in each of them.He is Lieutenant Gus Mayberry of Liverpool, formerly of 16th AGH 8th Division, who took them from a guard at Changi prison camp. When the Japanese capitulated at Singapore, Mayberry "asked" a Jap guard named Ted for his collar studs which were of ordinary European pattern. The two brass studs had round white celluloid ends. This week Mayberry noticed that some of the white celluloid had worn off one of the studs.
