The commencement of the tunnel at King's Cross. King's Cross was proposed to be a principle terminal station. The underground was deemed to be the solution for convenient travel in densely populated areas. In its early stages, the Underground railway intended to run light trains at short intervals, in the hope that this would prevent collisions. Date: 7th April 1860
