The commandery of Launay, (Launay-les-Sens), of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem dates from the thirteenth century. Philippe de Villiers of L'Isle-Adam was commander of Launay before continuing overseas and finishing at the head of the Order, providing him with a fallback solution in Malta, after the fall of Rhodes and exile in Italy. The brother of the cardinal and the duke of Guise died in this commandery during the first fights against the Huguenots. But from 1660, it was deserted by the members of the Order and inhabited by powerful farmers. It was destroyed as a result of the French Revolution
