Commander Evans, the Second in Command of the British Antarctic expedition of Captain Scott, pictured with the two men who saved his life when he was struck down with scurvy. Evans had a very severe journey from the polar plateau. Owing to the party being one man short the work of hauling the sledge taxed his strength, which was weakened by Lieutenant Evans developing scurvy.
