Co-Operative Orchestra - The London Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the finest and most active orchestra in the country, is by no means confined to London, where it provides many of the best concerts during the season, but also tours the provincial towns of Great Britain. Formed by Sir Thomas Beecham in 1932, during the early months of the war the L.P.O. lacked financial support and a decision was made to disband. But the players themselves would not agree to this and they decided to continue, as a co-creative orchestra, taking over their own responsibilities under an elected committee. July 9, 1951.
