The City's Churches St Mary-Le-Bow, most famous of London's churches for the association of its Bow Bells with Cockneydom, was badly damaged in the London Blitzes but has high priority on the list for restoration. Its magnificent spire, considered by Wren to be his masterpiece, escaped destruction; laid bare by the devastation, like St Paul's, it can now be fully appreciated.
