Cinderella, 1847. Eugen Napoleon Neureuther (German, 1806-1862), Wendelin Wick (German, active 1842-1853). Etching on steel on wove paper; plate: 72 x 54 cm (28 3/8 x 21 1/4 in.); sheet: 80 x 63 cm (31 1/2 x 24 13/16 in.). The fairy tale Cinderella tells of a neglected servant girl who, aided by a fairy godmother, attends a ball and falls in love with a prince. The prince finds his true love by fitting a glass slipper on her foot. Eugen Neureuther made this elaborate etching depicting several scenes from the story during a revival of interest in folk tales in Germany in the early 19th century.
