Center Table ca. 1830 Anthony G. Quervelle Although Anthony Quervelle, who emigrated to Philadelphia from Paris in 1817, is thought to have produced many pieces of furniture, few are documented. This table bears the label Quervelle used between 1825 and 1849. Such details as the gadrooning around the top and the front-scroll paw supports relate to designs published in George Smith's "Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide" (London, 1829) and appear on similar tables, including three that Quervelle made in 1829 for the East Room of the White House. The brilliantly colored intarsia marble top was probably manufactured in Europe. Listen to experts illuminate this artwork's story Listen Play or pause #4539.
