Cargoes of frozen meat were commandeered by the Government on arrival in the UK. On the eve of the war the prices of provisions shot up suddenly but the Government stepped in and issued lists fixing the retail prices of articles of food. This photograph illustrated just one of the many new activities of the Government: ships, motors, horses, and supplies of all kinds were commandeered everywhere for the Army. Date: 1914
