The site is adjacent to a hazard field created to support the project at the north end of the SLF. Testing of the prototype lander has been ongoing at NASAs Johnson Space Center in Houston in preparation for a free flight at Kennedy later this year. The SLF will provide the lander with the kind of field necessary for realistic testing, complete with rocks, craters and hazards to avoid.
