Her name, probably an early form of the name Martha, suggests that she came from western Asia and was probably married to the king for political reasons. Like her contemporaries, Manuwai (18.8.21a, b) and Manhata (18.8.1a, b), Maruta was absorbed into the Egyptian court and, after her death, she was buried according to Egyptian royal custom.
