The Busy Civilian Doctor - Dressing station at factory where the doctor is responsible for the well-being of some 1,300 workers. The cut/thumb is efficiently and quickly dressed while the other casualties wait. There is an acute shortage of civilian doctors. Many are grievously overworked, none so more than the average general practitioner. These pictures were obtained with the special co-operation of the British Medical Association, and show a record of the principal events in a twenty four hour period, from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday in a normal week, though the doctor must remain anonymous for reasons of professional etiquette. For the same reason pictures do not give a recognizable portrait of him. September 18, 1951. (Photo by Topical Press).
