This is the "Bulla A Quartet," four Fiji crew members of the Islands freighter, Lautoka, which is berthed at South Wharf today. (From the left, Roko Bessi, Mike Roberts, Jimmy Roberts and Andrew Purcell.) The boys taught themselves to play to fill in the long hours at sea. When their ship called at New Zealand recently they made a recording of a "Taralala" - a native dance - for a radio station. The recording became a best seller. In today's mail they got a cheque for £74/10/ - their first royalties for the recording. January 02, 1952.
