At a British port, the famous cruiser Shropshire, which took part in the bombardment of the Italian Red *****, was handed over by the Royal Navy to the Royal Australian Navy as a gift from Britain to Australia, to replace H.M.A.S. Canberra, lost in action against the Japanese in the Solomons. A completer modern refit, in which British women workers took part, preceded the handling over.
