The British 1868 Expedition to Abyssinia was a punitive expedition against King Theodore, after he had imprisoned missionaries and representatives of the British Government. After the British had bombarded Magdala and defeated the Abyssinian Army, King Theodore shot himself. This image shows the exodus of the population, including thousands of the men of King Theodore's defeated army with their wives and children. In total it is thought that 30,000 people were part of this flight. Date: 13th
