British Cruiser In Persian Gulf -- The cruiser Mauritius during a visit to Trieste. It was announced by the British Foreign Secretary, the Rt. Hon, Herbert Morrison, that the British Government has ordered the ***** ton cruiser H.M.S. Mauritius to the vicinity of Abadan, near the Anglo Iranian Oil Compan's refineries.The 'Mauritius' is Flagship of the East Indies Fleet and is commanded by Captain E.O.F. Price. She carries a complement of 800 officers and men and mounting a main armament of nine six inch guns, she is capable of doing over 30 knots. Abadan lies on the west bank of the Shatt-al-Arba river, about 30 miles from its mouth, and the shallow draught of the cruiser Mauritius will enable her to sail up river. July 24, 1951.
