It is thought to have arisen at a live animal market in the city. The earliest cases were detected in Wuhan in early December 2019. By the end of January 2020 it had been detected in every province in China (red), and cases had been reported in numerous other countries, as shown by red dots. The first death outside China was reported in the Philippines on 1st February. Victims have died of pneumonia, and mostly had underlying medical conditions.
