The city guard stormed, resulting in a clash in which the mayor, Peter Colijn, twenty militiamen and twenty-eight Anabaptists were killed. The surviving Anabaptists were executed, their hearts ripped out while still alive, their bodies dismembered, their heads nailed to pikes and placed at the gates of the city.
