Allied Infantrymen Advance Under Fire In ItalyCrouched low in the face enemy fire, Allied infantrymen cross a blasted railway bridge over the Volturno River to drive the Germans form the strategic town of Cancello, Italy. The German fought desperately in a futile effort to retain their grip on Cancello, which is situated on the north bank of the Volturno along the most difficult part of the river to cross.
