Albert Prince consort (1819 - 1861).When I was young, the very name of Albert, Queen Victoria's Prince Consort, was a joke. Everything about him seemed redo-lent of all that was stuffy and absurd about the Victorian Age. We smiled at the Albert Memorial and laughed at the Albert Hall. The Prince Consort's popular title, "Albert the Good," seemed hilarious. A good deal of our attitude was the result of Lytton Strachey's witty but misleading books. July 1, 1953.
