Air Feeding -- Heavy demands on fuel by jet engines are met here by this unique air-feeding system. The aircraft - a Gloster Meteor (shadow visible on ground lower right) - has a special fuel intake pipe in its nose. Pilot flies right in behind an Avro Lincoln fuel-bearing aircraft, slips his fuel pipe into the big black nozzle. Refueling is accomplished quickly and the jet plane can go on with its flight, without the inconvenience of landing. April 9, 1951. (Photo by Reuterphoto).
