After the American Revolution, Thaddeus Kosciuszko returned to Europe, He became General in Chief of the PolishLithuanian army fighting against Russian occupation following the Second Partition of Poland in 1793. After the 'Kosciuszko Uprising' failed in Nov. 1794, Kosciuszko was imprisoned by the Russians at Saint Petersburg's Peter and Paul Fortress. In 1796, he was pardoned by Tsar Paul I, and emigrated to the United States (BSLOC_2019_4_21)
