Admiralty Built Tanker For Australian Government - Mrs. Foley performing the naming ceremony.The fast replenishment tanker "Tide Austral" has just been launched at the Musgrave Yard of Messrs Harland and Wolff Ltd at Belfast. The naming ceremony was performed by Mrs. Foley, wife of Captain J.B. Foley, C.B.E.. A.D.C.. R.A.N.. Royal Australian Naval Liaison officer, London, who was also present. A bottle of Australian wine was used in naming the vessel.The main machinery for the vessel is by Harland and Wolff Ltd. Of extreme length of 583 feet (550 feet between perpendiculars) the "Tide Austral" has a beam of 71 feet and deadweight of 17,700mtons. September 3, 1954. (Photo by Fox Photos).
