The Admiral Inspects A ...in England. Vice Admiral Russell R. Waesche, (front) Commandant of the U. S. Coast Guard, goes ashore from an invasion craft which Coast Guardsmen manned in the landings at Sicily, Salerno and Normandy. Speaking briefly to the officers and crew of the LCI, Vice Admiral Waesche praised their valiant services in three major invasions. He inspected the battle tested craft during a recent visit to the European Theater of Operations. Going ashore with the Commandant at an undisclosed English port are: Captain A. C. Richmond, Senior Coast Guard Officer in London; Captain Miles H. Imlay, Commanding Officer of American LCI (L)s in the ETO; and Commander Aden C. Unger, acting LCI(L) flotilla commander.
