According to Chinese mythology, when Lu Yueh was President of the Ministry, he was forced to retreat to his fortress by the enemy, Yang Chien. Lu Yueh climbed atop the central raised part of the embattled wall and opened all his plague-disseminating umbrellas, hoping to infect the enemy. But Yang Chien just waved his fan and turned all the umbrellas to dust - and burned the fort, with Lu Yueh in it. This illustration of the incident dates to around 1922.
