The obstruction of a coronary vessel by a plaque of atheroma is compensated by the placement of bypass. A vessel here, a fragment of the saphenous vein is grafted between the aorta and the obstructed coronary, downstream of the obstruction, so as to restore the blood irrigation of the heart.
