PHLEBITIS, X-RAY. PHLEBITIS, X-RAY Phlebitis results from a blood clot (thrombus) in a peripheral vein, usually in the lower limbs. If the thrombus is released, it may migrate to the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism. If the thrombus remains in place, the perturbed circulation may lead to trophicity disorders characteristic of phlebitis. This is a phlebography, a radiological technique using a contrast agent injected into the veins.
