MACROPHAGE. MACROPHAGE A macrophage is a cell capable of destroying other cells or bacteria. This is achieved by phagocytosis. Macrophages comprise the organisms principle defense against infection. These cells migrate rapidly to a focus of infection and participate in all the phenomena “scavenging” tissue altered or injured by infection.
