Norman women's dress of the 12th century. "The sleeves are represented still wider, and terminating in a kind of pocket, by the two figures in this plate, and the pursey parts of the sleeves, belonging to the figure on the right, are of a different colour to the gown, and seem to have been separate parts of the dress.". "The coverchief of the middle figure is shown hanging very low down on the left side of the head, while on the right it is thrown back over the shoulder. In the figure to the left, one end of it is wrapped around the neck, and the other falls upon the right breast. On the right figure, one end of it is thrown across the breast and over the left shoulder so as to cover the other end completely; it is also gathered into two folds upon the top of the head and confined by a diadem, or broad circle of gold." .
