This (Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph) LASCO C2 sequence of six consecutive images taken over one and a half hours on 11 November 2002 shows the propagation of a coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with a relatively small M1 flare. Flares are intense releases of radiant energy, often associated with violent mass motions such as eruptive prominences and CME's.
