Located in South Eastern Iceland, Svinafellsjokull is one of the many outlet glaciers of the massive Vatnajokull glacier, EarthÆs third-largest. The ice that feeds Svinafellsjokull comes spilling down from Icelandæs high interior in an icefall that riddles it with deep crevasses. Much of the glacier is covered with interwoven layers of black ash from recent volcanic eruptions.
