Fertile farming country near the foothills of Mount Elgon. Bananas are grown everywhere in Uganda. There are more varieties in the Great Lakes Region than any other region of the world. Green bananas cooked like potatoes and known as matoke are Uganda's national dish. The red flowering tree in the foreground is a Flame Tree (Spathodea campanulata).
