Madagascar, Northern Madagascar. Baobab trees, Adansonia suarezensis, grow in woodland around Antsiranana, formerly known as Diego Suarez. This northern flat-top baobab is one of the world's eight baobab species of which six are endemic to Madagascar. One species is found in Africa and one in Northwest Australia. The diversity in Madagascar would suggest that baobabs first evolved there.
