The Milgis lugga (a Somali word meaning a seasonal watercourse) is a lifeline for the Samburu people and their livestock living in a low-lying, semi-arid region of their district. As the last of the surface water dries, the mud cakes and curls in the hot sun. The stockowners then dig wells until it rains again.
