Buttonwood Agreement founded the New York Stock Exchange on May 17, 1972. Signers depicted in this painting L-R: Augustine Lawrence, Warden of the Port of New York, Charles McEvers, a merchant, Andrew Barclay, a merchant, Leonard Bleeker, broker, and David Reedy (in cocked hat), insurance and stock broker. The agreement was named for the tree under which it was signed between Numbers 68 and 70 Wall Street.
