Rudolph Virchow (1821-1902), German pathologist and physician, as a young man. He became a doctor in 1843 and in 1845 he published a paper with the earliest identification of the blood disease leukemia. In 1849, at the age of 28, he held the first German chair of pathology at the University of Wurzburg.
