Timisoara has been for a long time the most prosperous and advanced of the cities of the Banat. Romania's premier technical university is based there. Timisoara is also well known as a place of 1989 revolution. Piata Unirii is a prime example and traffic-free showpiece of Baroque urban architecture with green, red and yellow buildings.
