A mature tule elk bull bugles. This vocalization is common during the rut when males try to collect and protect a harem of females. The tule elk was once on the brink of extinction but thanks to recovery efforts, they now number an estimated 4, 000. This elk is at the Point Reyes Tule Elk Preserve, in the bay area of California, which boasts one of the largest tule elk populations in the US.
