In the constellation Scorpio, the blue and yellow nebula are reflection nebulas, the red nebulas are emission nebulas, glowing hydrogen ions. The star at the base of the yellow nebulosity is Antares, a huge red giant, while next to it is the globular cluster M4. The blue nebulosity towards the top is IC 4604, while the red nebulosity to the right is Sh2-9.

So named by Daphne Hallas many years ago after seeing a film verison fo this reflection nebula in Cepheus. In the film version, only the central area could be seen, which resembled an unfolding Iris, but in the CCD version, so much detail is visible that the "iris" has become lost.
