BLADDER, DRAWING. BLADDER, DRAWING The urinary bladder is part of the urinary system situated in the lower part of the pelvis. This spherical pouch stores urine produced continuously by the kidneys. When the bladder is full, it contracts, evacuating urine via the urethra when the sphincter is open. Different bladder diseases are common (infection, tumor, stones). Cancer of the bladder is favored by smoking. Here is a sagittal section of the bladder shown in blue.

RECTUM, DRAWING. The rectum in frontal section. The rectum is composed of the rectal ampulla upper part and of the anal canal lower part, delimited by the pectinated line , anal canal leads to the anus. The rectal ampulla forms curves, at the origin of folds of the internal mucosa of the rectum : the Houston´s valves. It also presents vertical folds, the anal columns. The wall of the rectum includes three layers of tissue : the muscularis, external, composed of muscle fibers insuring the defecat

PYLORIC STENOSIS, X-RAY. PYLORIC STENOSIS, X-RAY Stricture of the lower part of the stomach, the pylorus, is called pyloric stenosis. This condition can be inherited or acquired, for example when caused by an ulcer or a tumor. Pyloric stenosis causes severe digestive disorders (pain, vomiting). An x-ray study with a contrast agent is used to confirm the diagnosis and visualize the hypertrophy of the sphincter. Hypertrophy of the muscular sphincter requires surgical treatment. In case of steno

ENURESIS, ARTWORK. ENURESIS, ARTWORK Incontinence is the inability to control urination (passage of urine). Due to problems with the bladder´s sphincter, urinary incontinence can range from an occasional leakage of urine, to a complete inability to hold any urine. Common causes include mental or psychological changes (Alzheimer´s disease, acute confusion, depression), trauma following surgery or infection, pelvic muscle weakness, especially in women who have had multiple pregnancies. POLYP IN THE BLADDER, SONOGRAPHY. POLYP IN THE BLADDER, SONOGRAPHY The urinary bladder is a reservoir holding urine between two mictions. The bladder is situated in the lower portion of the pelvis and has a spherical shape. Its walls are formed by two tunics and a neck at the bottom of the bladder opens into the urethra. A sphincter at the origin of the urethra is held closed between mictions. A polyp is a generally benign tumor. Here a polyp formed on the bladder wall has been visualized by
