Frederic Cuvier (1773~1838) was a celebrated natural historian and scientist, like his famous younger brother Baron Georges Cuvier. Frederic was a member of the Academy of Sciences, and director of the zoo at the Museum of Natural History in Paris from 1804 to 1838. He edited the contributions of many distinguished scientists to the massive 60-volume Dictionnaire des sciences naturelles (1804~1830), and also wrote l'Histoire naturelle des Mammifères (1819~1828) with Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire.. .
