Sustainable urban farming. Hydroponic farming of basil is seen on the Science Barge, a sustainable urban farm floating on the Hudson River in New York on Saturday, October 4, 2008. The urban farm, powered by wind, solar and biofuel sources uses rainwater and purified river water for irrigation growing their crops without carbon emissions or waste. The barge is operated by the New York Sun Works Center for Sustainable Engineering. ( Frances M. Roberts)
